Description

Permaculture is a philosophy and an approach to the use of land aimed at the design of ecologically sustainable living spaces and activities. Inspired by natural ecosystems, permaculture establishes favorable interactions between the components of the sites whose development it designs: humans and their needs, the territory and its characteristics, the annual and perennial plants that grow there, the animals, soils, microclimates, water, etc. By connecting these elements, it forms associations that are productive, resilient and as autonomous as possible.

Born in 1928 in Tasmania (Australia), Bill Mollison worked for several years as an environmental biologist and marine biologist before becoming a professor at the University of Tasmania where he created the department of environmental psychology. There, in the early seventies, with David Holmgren, he developed the concept of permaculture. He will develop a set of guiding principles that will constitute its ethics and which boil down to working with nature, rather than against it; make the smallest effort for the biggest change; and, above all, understand and admit that the problem is necessarily the solution.

In 1981, he received the alternative Nobel Prize for all of his work, the quintessence of which he gives us in this fabulous, deliciously illustrated work, which invites us to rethink our market gardening practices in harmony with the environment.

This book received the greatest attention from the people who worked on it. The translators have endeavored to convey the spirit of Bill Mollison in all the subtlety of his experience and in the depth of his understanding of natural phenomena. It benefited from the proofreading and advice of several experienced permaculturists. The design and infographics of the book have been particularly careful to ensure clarity and ease of reading. Printed in France on 100% recycled paper, this large format book was printed with solvent-free inks and vegetable pigments. It contains 165 diagrams and explanatory drawings.
